The ‘24 hours Question’. The biggest ask of all.
Reflecting on your life, both your accomplishments to date and all the things that you will leave unfinished or undone, ask yourself:
- What did I miss?
- Who did I not get to be?
- What did I not get to do?
It usually generates responses that involve themes around the family and relationships – 90% of the responses to this question cover this topic. No surprise there! Many responses involve the wish to have led a more authentic, spiritual or meaningful life. While a large number of others express a desire to have done something creative: to have written a novel, planted a garden or to have learned to play blues guitar, others reflected on how secure they had left their family financially.
Further down the list are themes about giving back to the community, about leaving a positive impact and searching for a sense of belonging in a particular place. All very interesting… but you’re probably asking yourself, what does this have to do with money? In fact, it has everything to do with it.
It’s only when you understand what you want to do with your life that you can make financial choices that reflect your trust and most deeply-held values.
